Gravitt, age 83, of route three, Bowdon, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 17, 1979 in a Carrollton Hospital. She was born in Heard County, Georgia on July 27, 1985 the daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Wilson Nixon. Mrs. Gravitt was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and had lived in Bowdon for the past twenty-seven years moving here from Woodland, Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Garland Gravitt on July 18, 1971 and a son Kenneth Gravitt on May 17, 1945 while in service with the U. S. Army. Survivors include four daughters: Mrs. Noel Williams, Route three, Bowdon, Mrs. J. T. Whitaker, Bunnell, Fla., Mrs. Julian Spruill, route three, Bowdon and Mrs. Wendell Jackson, Route one, Ranburne, Ala; five sons, Wallace Gravitt, Anniston, Ala., Trumer Gravitt, LaGrange, Ga., Goodwyn Gravitt, Lanett, Ala., Elmo Gravitt, Route three, Bowdon and George Gravitt, route three, Bowdon; 26 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Zora Wiggins, Graham, Ala., Mrs. Grace Tittle, Lanett, Ala. and Mrs. Essie Baughns Ranburne, Ala.; three brothers, J. J. Nixon, Lanett, Ala., Wiley Nixon, Franklin, Ga., and Frank Nixon, Lanett, Ala. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. from the Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward McLain officiating. Organ music was furnished by Mrs. Tom Williams. Interment was in the church cemetery. The following grandsons served as pallbearers: Larry Wiliams, Bruce Gravitt, Randy Spruill, Diron Gravitt, Chris Jackson, Mike Gravitt, and Ty Whitaker.
