Hammond, 75, Passes Away Near Here Saturday." "Deceased Was Prominent Citizen For Many Years; Was A Former Minister." Mr. John T. Hammond, age 75, passed away at the home of his son on Carrollton Route 6 Saturday afternoon after an illness of several months duration. The deceased was a highly respected citizen and had been a resident of Carrollton and vicinity for a number of years. During most of this time he operated a general store. Prior to opening his store, Mr. Hammond had been a regularly ordained minister of the gospel. Besides his wife, who was Miss Elizabeth T. Marlow before her marriage, he is survived by one son, Mr. Otis L. Hammond. He is also survived by four brothers, T. M. Hammond, of Newnan; Joseph Hammond, of Bremen; Noah Hammond, of Tallapoosa; and Robert Hammond, of Hulett; and three sisters, Mrs. Annie Hendrix and Mrs. Julia Hendrix, of Carrollton and Mrs. Drusilla Warren, of Alabama. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the home of his son with Rev. W. J. Lovvorn oficiating. Interment was in the City Cemetery. Pall bearers were A. L. and R. R. Hughs, O. M. Hale, Otis L. Copeland, George Cook and Earl Vines. Additional Comments: John Thomas Hammond was born in 1860 in Campbell Co., Ga. to Thomas McCoy Hammond and Mary Jane Davidson. He married in Carroll Co., Ga. on December 25, 1881 to Texas Elizabeth Marlow.
