Mrs. Knott

Mrs. Desser Knott, 89, of Route 8, Carrollton, died early Wednesday in a local 
hospital following an extended illness {Aug 25, 1982}.

She was born in Randolph County, Ala., Nov. 19, 1892, the daughter of the late 
William David Nixon and Mattie Norton Nixon.  Mrs. Knott had lived in Carroll 
County most of her life and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Alabama.

On July 25, 1907, she was married to Joseph Whitfield (Joe) Knott, who died 
April 8, 1970.  A daughter, Mrs. Ola Mae Meadows, died in 1956.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Marvie Gordon of Carrollton, Route 8, Mrs. 
Ella Calhoun, Mrs. Ruth Phillips, and Mrs. Irene Smith, all of Carrollton; a 
brother, Carl Nixon of West Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, 
and four great-great grandchildren.

Services were conducted August 26, 1982 from the Martin & Hightower Chapel with 
the Rev. Guy Rogers officiating, assisted by the Rev. Irvine Phillips.  Music 
was under the direction of Harold McWhorter.  Pallbearers were Gordon, ?? 
Calhoun, Travis Walker, Cleveland Herren and Harvey Smith.  Interment was in 
Abilene Cemetery.
