Ernestine Nixon

Ernestine “Big” Nixon, 89, of 515 Bowdon-Junction Road, Mt. Zion, died Jan. 5, 
1997.  She was born in Carroll County on Oct. 4, 1907, daughter of the late 
Jesse and Terry Earnest Cook.

Mrs. Nixon was a retired lunchroom manager at Mt. Zion High School and a member 
of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wiley Dewey 
Nixon and one grandchild.

Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Ralph Ashmore, 
Jr., and Jeanette and Billy Robinson, all of Mt. Zion and Margaret and C.C. 
Perkins of Carrollton; 13 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and one great 
great grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 6 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Zion United 
Methodist Church with the Rev. Lance Snipes officiating.  Music was by Lou Anne 
Hutcheson.  Pallbearers were Alan Hendrix, Steve Skinner, Jeff Marlow, Jason 
Perkins, Derek Perkins, Dana Davis, Bruce Ashmore, and Brad Gambrel. Honorary 
pallbearers were Lizzie Crowder, Virginia Norton and Nancy Yates.  Interment 
followed in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion United 
Methodist Church.

Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel, Carrollton.
