Carroll County sheriff’s Capt. Brad Robinson said Monday that Floyd Nelson Jenkins, 40, of Lakeview Parkway called 911 Saturday about 10 p.m. to report his wife had killed herself. Police arriving at the home found Deborah Jenkins, 42, sitting on the couch in the living room with a single gunshot wound behind her right ear. Fairfield man suspected of killing his wife not allowed to attend her funeral A Fairfield man accused in the weekend shooting death of his wife was denied a request to attend her funeral Tuesday. Floyd Nelson Jenkins, 40, of Lakeview Parkway inside Fairfield Plantation asked through his attorney to attend the funeral of his wife, Deborah Jenkins. The petition was filed Tuesday at 11:43 a.m. in Carroll County Superior Court by Jenkins` defense attorney, Edward Garland of Atlanta. No official ruling was made on the issue but sheriff`s Capt. Brad Robinson said Jenkins was not allowed to attend the 3 p.m. services in Tallapoosa. Jenkins is being held in the Carroll County Jail on charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. Jenkins called 911 Saturday about 10 p.m. to report his wife had killed herself, according to sheriff`s reports. Police arriving at the home found Mrs. Jenkins, 42, sitting on the couch in the living room with a single gunshot wound behind her right ear. The couple filed for custody against their son-in-law, Floyd Nelson Jenkins, who is charged with Mrs. Jenkins` death. A court hearing in the matter has been set Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. in Carroll County Superior Court. In the court papers, the couple state they will seek permanent custody of the two boys. Judge denies accused killer bond A Fairfield man accused of shooting his wife to death Nov. 3 has been denied bond and bound over to the grand jury on the charge of murder, despite a plea for a reduced charge by his attorneys. “What is appropriate is voluntary manslaughter,” said Manubir S. Arora, one of the attorneys representing Floyd Nelson Jenkins. “This is classic heat of passion. At best, it’s an accident. I am not aware of any premeditation or intent to kill.” However, local prosecutor Rutgar Hayes argued that Georgia carries no premeditation statute. “Premeditation can occur within a second’s notice,” he said. “There is no premeditation in Georgia. Malice aforethought is the standard,” to which Arora responded, “There is no evidence of malice aforethought. The state may upgrade to murder after its investigation is completed but this is a case of voluntary manslaughter.” WEDNESDAY, November 21, 2001 Maggie Pollard Cumby, 91, of Tallapoosa died Nov. 16, 2001. He died Friday. The child attended TLC Learning Center on Gray Road in Carrollton. Employees there began calling parents of other children Friday night to advise them of the situation. Astin said approximately 100 children and parents were at the health department Saturday where they were given the antibiotic Rifadin. Astin said the antibiotic is `quite effective if people are identified and treated promptly.` Astin said he was not aware of a fatality from bacterial meningitis in Carroll County since late 1993. He said there are typically 75 to 100 cases each year in Georgia.
