He was a former employee of Thomaston Mills. Mrs. Dye was a native of Upson County and a former resident of Gordon, Ga. She was the widow of Robert E. Dye and the mother of the late Evalene Sheriff. Mrs. Dye was a former employee of Thomaston Mills. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Clear Creek Baptist Church in Gordon. Miss Mary Lou HEFFERNAN, 57, of Old Talbotton Road, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002 at Riverside Nursing Center. He was on the board of the Upson County Department of Family and Children Services for 57 years, and was serving as chairman when he retired from the organization. Mr. Raines was a member of First United Methodist Church. He has been a Mason for 50 years, and was a member of the Al Sihah Shrine Temple. She graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and was married to her high school sweetheart, Mark A. Smith, Jr. for 58 years. Always supporting her husband as he rose through the ranks of Kiwanis International she served as Kiwanis International First Lady during his 1979-80 term as Kiwanis International President. An avid golfer and member of the Cherokee Women's Golf Association, she was proud of her two (2) hole-in-ones. Survivors include her husband, Mark A. Horace Atwater Sr. To this union five children were born. Larry Atwater and Phyllis Draine preceded her in death. At an early age she realized she needed a Savior. She accepted Christ and joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Yatesville and later joined St. Timothy Baptist Church where she served faithfully until her death. She served in all capacities. Mother Atwater raised four generations of choir members. She was a servant of God who loved mankind. She touched the lives of many, especially young people. Survivors include her loving husband, Dea. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Evie Bright Wall of Thomaston; sons, Mr. John Robert Wall Jr. of Ellenwood, Mr. Jeff Wall of Forsyth and Mr. Todd Wall and Mr. Dan Wall, both of Thomaston; daughters, Mrs. Marlene Maher of Thomaston and Mrs. Susan Bardi of Norcross; sisters, Mrs. Peggy Bell of Shellman, Mrs. Helen Daniel of Thomaston and Mrs. Martha Scott of Molena; and 15 grandchildren.
