Smith held Saturday Wedowee, Jan. 3rd Mr. Ben H. Smith died at his home here last Thursday night. He had been in feeble health for more than a year but had been confined to his room only a few days prior to his death. The deceased, fondly known as "Uncle Ben", was one of Wedowee's oldest and most beloved citizens. Funeral services were at one o'clock Saturday at the Wedowee Baptist church of which the deceased had long been a faithful member. In the absence of the pastor, Judge F.J. Ingram, the funeral was conducted by Rev. S.R. Towns and T.N. Crumpton, pastors of the two local Methodist churches. After the funeral rites at the church the Masons took charge of the body and concluded the services at the grave in the Masonic cemetery where interment took place. A widow and eight children survive him. The children living out of the county who attended the funeral are Mr. Larkin Smith of Cullman; Mr. Wyatt Smith of Jay, Florida; Mr. Jim Smith of Bowdon, Georgia; Mrs. J.N. Word of Milton, Florida; and Mrs. Jim Ayres of Tampa, Florida.
