Lucretia Araminta "Minta" Lewis Phillips (1865-1930) was Berry's wife. Berry was the son of Lewis Phillips (1819-1884) and Emaline Hogan Phillips (1822-1885). Lewis and Emaline were born in Union Co. SC, and migrated to Alabama with Lewis' father Joseph, and it was there that Berry was born. One of Berry's sisters, Mary A. Phillips, died while there were in Alabama, and she is buried near her grandfather Joseph at the Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Wellington. Berry was a blacksmith.
