This letter was written by my G.G.G. Grandfather, Moses Park to his son W.T.Park The Alonzo in the letter is his son who is in the 35th Georgia Company I. Rockspring, Ga. June 10th 1862 W.T.Park Dear Son, I merely drop you a line lest Julia may not have a chance to write for several days__ to let you know that we are all well. Your letter was received last Friday. On Saturday I met with Caroline at Peavine; on Sunday Julia was all well. No news among them. She said she would write before long but she had such a bad chance to send letters to the P.O. she wanted me to write if I could. I have a heap of work to do, but little time to write except on Sundays. The Federals have been to Chattanooga, commenced bombarding the town last Saturday evening & Sunday morning till 12 O'clock, not much damage done to the town, 1 man killed 5 or 6 wounded, left Sunday evening, went down the river our folks followed down on this side. The Yankees planted their battery about 1 mile from the river bank on an eminence opposite the landing. Our folks planted theirs on the hill not far from the Steam distillery. Where they will turn up next I don't know. I have no idea they will quit at that. Our forces at Chattanooga are variously estimated from 4 to ten thousand the first is the nearest the right figure I expect. I have not heard from Alonzo since the fight at Richmond. I have cut my spring wheat don't that I shall cut my Walker wheat at all. Wheat generally is sorry very sorry, hardly worth cutting. Well I reckon I have written about as long as I have time and pretty well all that I can think at this time, I merely do this lest you might become impatient before you get a letter from Julia.
