CHATHAM COUNTY, GA - BIOS Charles Walker ***************** Copyright. Supposedly, the young boy named Charles WALKER arrived in Savannah, GA with his parents and sister on a "big ship". Young Charles supposedly said that his father was suddenly not there with them, but he does not remember what exactly happened to his dad. He and his family eventually ended up in Clay County, KY. Charles grew up and supposedly married a Harriet GIBSON from Maryland. Harriet and Charles were both slaves. Charles later fought in the Civil War. When he returned, the family moved to Barbourville in Knox Co., KY. They raised a large family. One of his many sons, Samuel WALKER, married and had three children. The only daughter they had was my great- grandmother, Cordelia. Cordelia and her brother, Richard WALKER, were both born in Knox County, KY. Her other brother, John Kelly WALKER, was born in GA in 1872. Why that happened, I do not know. Maybe they were visiting relatives in GA at the time of his birth. That is the only reason that I can come up with. I began digging for info. on them, e.g., names, dates, birthplaces. I had been told that Charles' wife was from MD. I found three separate places that stated that Charles was born in MD. Harriet was supposedly born in KY. The ancestor that passed along this info. is dead. Her niece that still lives in Barbourville swears by the info. that 'Aunt Carrie' also had published in their Historical Societies Newsletter. She stated that her grandmother told her about the family's history. The article had no dates to research. On Richard and John Kelly's death certificates, it said that they BOTH were born in 1872. "Kelly" was killed in a coal mine in Knox County, KY in 1921. I have tried to find documentation about the accident, but have been unsuccessful. I have researched Chatham County, GA., ship passenger lists (if they weren't brought in as slaves), etc. I have looked for a will from Charles' owner, William Howard, "W. H. ", WALKER with no luck so far.
