Savannah Baptist Church?Bull, southwest corner Hull. A Baptist church was, in 1705, by contribution from people of Savannah and various citizens of South Carolina, erected on Franklin Square, where the First African Baptist Church now stands. Unfinished, it was rented to the Presbyterians for several years. Finally, completed and dedicated April, 7, 1800, and church constituted November 26, 1800. Present edifice completed 1833. Cost $40,000. Enlarged 1839. Lecture room constructed 1801. Terribly damaged by storm in 1898, repairs costing $10,00O. Building was partially destroyed by fire in 1897, and restored during that year. Blumenthal, treasurer. Mickva Israel Synagogue?Bull, southeast corner "Wayne. Organized 1733. Dissolved about 1740, and re-established in 1786. First synagogue erected on Liberty, northeast corner Whitaker, in 1815. Burned in 1829. Replaced by brick building in 1838. The present structure was completed in 1876. Lippman, vice president and treasurer. LUTHERAN. Church of the Ascension?120-124 Bull. A church organization of Lutherans was formed in Savannah in 1744. Between 1750 and 1760 a small church was built upon the present site, and was presided over by Revs. Rabenhorst and Wattman. Some time prior to 1776 Rev. Mr. Bergman assumed charge, but during the Revolution the church was closed. Reorganized in 1787, but services discontinued shortly after, and not revived until 1824. In 1843 a brick church replaced the old wooden one, this being torn down in 1876 to give place to the present edifice, which was dedicated April 20, 1879. The pastors have been Stephen A. Morgan, pastor. Trinity Church?Barnard, north-west corner York. The first body of Methodists organized in Savannah was in 1807, under Samuel Dunwody. In 1813 Wesley Chapel, corner Lincoln and Oglethorpe avenue, was erected. February 14. 1848, cornerstone of Trinity church was laid, and church completed and occupied in 1850. In 1859 lecture room was added, and in 1888 Robert McIntire built Sunday School room and presented it to church. The pastors of Trinity have been J. E. Evans, 1849-1850; W. R. Brannon, 1851; L. Coney, clerk of congregation. Present membership, 240. Sunday School?Mart Hood, superintendent. INDEPENDENT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH?Bull, southwest corner Oglethorpe avenue. Organized 1755. Granted lot on which to build church in 1756, and first church erected facing Market square, between Bryan and St. Julian streets. Destroyed by fire 1796. Second church erected on east side Barnard, between President and York. Was a frame building, and blown down in storm of 1804. No record is at hand of the place of worship from 1804 to 1819. In 1817 cornerstone of new church was laid upon present site, and in May, 1819, it was finished at a cost of $96,108.67 1/2, and dedicated. April 6, 1889, it was completely destroyed by fire. Steps were at once taken for its restoration, and in June, 1891, the present church, an exact counterpart of the former one, was dedicated. The following pastors have served the church: Revs. J. J.
