February 9, 1877 Mrs. Mary A. Marshal, who recently died in Savannah, was a notable old lady. She was well up in the nineties at the time of her death, and had at that advanced age more business capacity than is generally allotted to woman. She was in her time the reigning belle of Savannah society, and as a child, sat upon the knee of Gen. Washington, when he visited Savannah. She owned more valuable real estate than any other person in Georgia, and now dies leaving a very large estate to a grand-daughter by adoption. She was of the few persons in Savannah who believed in real estate investments, and many of the finest houses in the city belong to her estate. She alwasy managed her own property and collected her own rents.
