Born in Donegal, Ireland, he had lived in Savannah 50 years; he was ill but four weeks before his death. Years ago he operated the old Alahambra Music Hall. The funeral was held from the Church of the Blessed Sacrament with a Requiem Mass. Interment was in Cathedral Cemetery. Pallbearers were Col. Sheftall B. Coleman, James T. McKenna, Edward Lyons, George Cleary, Henry Cramer, and C. G. Flynn. Surviving Mr. Gildea are four daughters, Miss Mary Gildea, Mrs. John Fischer, Miss Florence Gildea and Miss Elizabeth Gildea, Savannah; five sons, Edward Gildea, New York, Joseph Gildea, Francis J. Gildea, Benjamin J. Gildea and James F. Gildea, Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Catherine O'Brien, Philadelphia, and five grandchildren.
