The following biography is from his obituary in the November 23, 1974 Savannah Morning News. A similar obituary appeared on November 21, 1974 in the Atlanta Constitution. Funeral services were held Thursday in Atlanta at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for Joseph Bowden Neely, 51, who died Tuesday after a heart attack. He was a native of Savannah, a Mason, a member of Landrum Lodge No. 48, a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion. He attended the University of Dayton in Ohio and the University of Illinois and was employed for 33 years by Southern Railway System as a computer programer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Kathleen Bell Neely of Decatur; a daughter, Mrs. Walter L. Williams [Sharlotte Kathleen Neely Donnelly] of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, J. Robert Neely of Savannah; and two nephews. Burial was in Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be sent to the Heart Fund.
