Savannah, Ga., Jan. 8 -- After an illness of a week, Dr. Julius C. LeHardy died
yesterday morning at 10 o'clock at the residence of his son, L. M. LeHardy, No.
2209 Whitaker street.  Dr. LeHardy's health had been failing recently, and the
end had been expected for several days.  The immediate cause of his health was
Bright's disease.
Dr. LeHardy was one of Savannah's oldest and most prominent citizens.  For many
yars he was prominently identified with public affairs, and for two years was
health officer of Savannah.

Born in Belgium.
Dr. LeHardy was born on October 21, 1831, in Chateu Fichermont, on the
battlefield of Waterloo, Belgium.  His father was Viscount LeHardy Deaulieu.  He
attended school in Paris and graduated there in both engineering and medicine at
the head of his class.  He came to America in 1848 and landed in Charleston,
whence he moved to Rome, Ga.
On leaving Rome, Dr. LeHardy went to Philadelphia, where he graduated from the
Philadelphia Medical College and afterwards returned to Savannah.  He was
professor in the medical college of Augusta and also in Savannah, at the time
the medical college was being operated here.
He was health officer of this city during the Meldrim administration.  Dr.
LeHardy was president of the local medical society for several terms and also
president of the state medical society.  He enlisted in the Savannah Volunteer
Guards at the opening of the war and served through the entire war as a member
of that command.

His Family.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie LeHardy, who was a Miss Bond, and by
three sons and one daughter; who are L. M. LeHardy, of this city; Charles A.
LeHardy, of Palatka, Fla., and Dr. J. C. LeHardy, Jr., surgeon in the United
States army in the Phillipines, and Mrs. T. S. Wylly.  J. D. LeHardy, of the
army is probably on his way home from the Islands, as his family has not yet
been able to locate him.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence, 2209
Whitaker street, and the services will be conducted by Rev. Charles H. Strong
rector of St. John's Episcopal Church.  The interment will be in Bonaventure
cemetery and the pallbearers will be Messrs. A. G. Guerard, Henry D. Stevens, T.
P. Ravenel, Major C. S. Hardee, Dr. W. W. Owens and Dr. S. L. Phillips.
