All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/gafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Beth Hemingway bmheming@bellsouth.net March 25, 2004, 12:21 pm The Stars and Stripes-National Tribune, 1-18-1968 Philip A Meyer Succumbs, Headed Georgia USWV Philip A Meyer, of Savannah, Ga, died on Jan 4 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Charleston, SC Meyer served as commander of the Department of Georgia, United Spanish War Veterans, on two separate occasions-in 1955-1956 and in 1966-1967. He became a member of the Charles G Edwards Post No 660, Veterans of Foreign Wars, in 1941 and has been a member continously since that date. He was Post commander of VFW Post No 660 during the year of 1941-1942; a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No 8; and served as Camp commander of the Worth Bagley Camp No 10, USWV, for eight terms of office. He had been an active and participating member of the Chatham County Veterans Council since 1951. He actively participated and belonged to all veterans organizations in Savannah for which he was eligible. He was an outstanding member and leader in all phases of veterans affairs. Surviving are a son, Philip A Meyers, Jr, three daughters, Mrs Fran Hixon, Mrs Henry Wiehrs, all of Savannah, and Mrs FWA Campbell, of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Andre Meyers, of Jacksonville, Fla; a sister, Mrs Paul Lederer of New York City; nine grandhildren, 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
