Smith Died Of His Wounds

Was Struck on the Head with a pitcher by Gable

Savannah, Ga., Jan. 2 – Jacob Gable, a white man, is under surveillance at 
Tybee awaiting the verdict of the coroner’s jury.  He is the man who struck 
William Smith on the head with a pitcher Sunday night.  Smith was found dead in 
his bed.  Dr. Elton S. Osborne, police surgeon, made a post mortem examination 
of the body and found that Smith came to his death from blood clots on the 
brain caused by the blow from the pitcher.
