He was prominent in business, church and club circles. Born near Augusta in 1832, he had been in business here since 1872. He was a son of the late John Schley and a grandson of the late Judge John Schley, prominent in Georgia. He was a relative of Governor William Schley and of Admiral William Scott Schley. He is survived by his widow and three sons and a daughter. He was a deacon in the Independent Presbyterian church and head of the Ancient St. Andrews Society of Savannah for several years.
