K. Rogers MRS. E. M. WEEMS "Teresa Ann Elizabeth Sapp, born in 1834 in Chattahoochee Co. Ga. was the daughter of Judge Theophilus Sapp and Narcissa Frances Clark. Her childhood was characterized by a gentle grace and loveliness of disposition which made her a universal favorite. She lived the usual life of the Southern girl of pre-war days. Her ambition was to go to Wesleyan College where she was graduated in 1852. She received second honor out of a graduating class of twenty-seven. She always spoke of her days at Wesleyan with a pleasure which the years could not dim, and her loyalty and love for her college seemed to strengthen with the passing of time. She was proud to be a Philomathean Charter member and her joy in her Society lasted through her life. She loved her badge and wore it with great pleasure. In 1853 she was married to Edward Mortimer Weems, a wealthy planter of Chattahoochee Co. Four children survive; Mrs. Thomas M. Adams, Locke, Will and Mary Frances Weems. She was an ideal wife and mother, and in the fullness of her years she more than surpassed the rich promise of her youth. Like all Southern women, she played well the arduous part she was called on to take during the War Between the States, meeting its demand with cheerfulness, self-sacrifice and heroism.—From History of Phi Mu 1852-1927 compiled by Mrs. Isabel Garrard Patterson.
