K. Rogers PEARSON Elnathan Pratt Pearson of Lumpkin, Ga., b. Oct. 20, 1839 in that part of Chattahoochee which was originally Lee (place now owned by W. F. Dillard) is the oldest native of this section now living. His father, Sharrach Pearson b. in N. C. in 1807, was one of the colony coming from Williamson Co. Ga., as did the Nicholson family. He married Serena Elizabeth Nicholson and they (with the aid of his brother) built their first log cabin home (all building without nails) and here E. P. Pearson was born. He tells a most interesting manner about the customs of those early days when the little wooden box containing 100 matches must last a year and it became necessary sometime to borrow a chunk of fire from a neighbor. Mr. Pearson was boarding at Aunt Patsy Cobb's, going to Mr. Huff's school in Cusseta when he decided to join the Confederate army at once and as a company was being made up in Marion County he and some others from his community joined the Buena Vista guards, later transferred to 17th Ga. He remained in the army until the end of the war and has a vivid recollection of many war-time scenes. Additional Comments: From: HISTORY OF CHATTAHOOCHEE COUNTY, GEORGIA By N. K.
