K. Rogers MR. and MRS. J. W. and A. W. McGLAUN Messrs. J. Wesley and Andrew W. McGlaun, only sons of David G. McGlaun, now living, are among the best known citizens of Chattahoochee County. Although keenly interested in the history of this county, Mr. West McGlaun, handicapped by deafness, has not contributed as much data as Mr. Andrew who served as rural mail carrier for twenty-eight years, thus adding to his store of information regarding the people of the county. These men recalled numerous experiences of pioneer days told to them by their father whose home was included in Marion County when its county site was removed to Buena Vista. And he is said to have helped with the selection of this place, as well as that of Cusseta, when Chattahoochee County was formed. His plantation has remained in possession of his descendants, now being the home of J. Wesley and the family of his son, David E. McGlaun. The wife of J. Wesley, Mrs. Lillian Bagley McGlaun, a granddaughter of another of Chattahoochee's pioneers, William Bagley, spent her entire life, which was devoted to the service of her family, in this county. The wife of Andrew W., Mrs. Sallie Calhoun McGlaun, a daughter of Prof. James G. Calhoun and his first wife, Alice Jane Miller, of South Carolina, was born in Marion County, and has lived in several others where her father taught school. Later she and her sister, Mrs. Mollie Harris, gave splendid service to the state as teachers. Prof. James G. Calhoun, whose mother was Miss Elizabeth McNeil, was born in Talbot County, where his father's will is recorded with the name spelled "Colquhon" is originally in Scotland. Some have made the name famous but none have lived as more worthily than Mrs. Sallie Calhoun McGlaun, whose remarkable personality is known to many who have recognized her extraordinary intellectual and spiritual power and attainments.
