SIZEMORE, the subject of this sketch, was born February 5, 1836 [near Juniper in Talbot County, Georgia, the son of George Washington and Rhoda (UNKNOWN) SIZMORE], and died January 17, 1907 [in Chattahoochee County, Georgia]. He was married to Caroline PATE [born 02 OCT 1840, the daughter of John & Martha Ann (WEATHERS) PATE] February 4, 1858 [in Chattahoochee County]. To this happy union were born twelve children, seven boys and five girls, all living but one, who preceded him to the great beyond about seventeen years [sic - this is evidently in error. This probably refers to one of his sons-in-law, Benjamin Thomas “Tom” PATE, who died in 1891]. His children have proven to be a credit to their country and a delight to their parents. Brother SIZEMORE enlisted in the Confederate army [Company B, 6th Regiment, Georgia Militia] May 1864, and served as a faithful soldier until the close of the war. He united with the Primitive Baptist Church at County Line in July, 1878, and was baptized by Elder J. G. MURRAY. In the year 1900 he moved his membership to Mt. Paran Church, Chattahoochee county, Ga., and remained there and proved a faithful member until death. He was a member of one of the best and most influential families of this country. He bore the family name with honor, and left it an untarnished heritage to his widow and children, his church, his kindred and countless friends. As a product of nature, he was a jewel in point of character. He could not be excelled: humble, gentle, kind and true. He was one of nature’s noblemen, upon whom she lavishes her rarest gifts, which came alone from God, unto whom they were devoted. He did not only prove that God had blessed him with splendid natural qualities, but that he bestowed upon him eternal life, [evident to] the church and all men of his acquaintance, by which love he was constrained to consecrate his life to God’s cause and to faithfully serve Him until his death. All these qualities prepared him to be what he was, a shining light in the church….Submitted in love by the humble pastor of his church, T. D. ROBERTS, Buena Vista, Georgia
