Aug. 2, 1833—The scattered brethren and sisters who, petitioning to be constituted into a church in this neighborhood met at the house of Jesse Osteen in the 6th District of Muscogee County, Georgia, for that purpose; and John G. Willing-ham and Andrew Hood being sent for as a presbytery were present; they then and there called for letters and received ten who being found orthodox and orderly were constituted into a church called Mt. Olive upon the principles of faith held to the Columbus Baptist Association whose names are hereunto subscribed. Brethern Ezekiel Simpson, Jesse Osteen, Shadick Walker, and the sisters are Martha Simpson, Sidney Osteen, Sidney Orr, Mary Walker, Rachel Shira, 'Kesiah Guy, Edea Morris. John G. Willingham, Andrew Hood, Presby. On p. 3 are found Articles of Faith. Agreed to hold meetings on second Sunday and Saturday before each month. Sept. 12, 1833, chose Brother Hood as supply preacher for present year. Names added to church prior to 1840, Abby Osteen, Gideon H. Croxton, John Orr (by letter), Bro. Cader A. Pate, Robert W. Powell. Sunday, July 30, 1933, the hundredth anniversary of this church was celebrated. Elder A. J. Laney preached both morning and afternoon sermons. The present membership numbers ten, but many friends of the church attended this meeting. This church, in Cusseta, has buried within its churchyard many of the ancestors and kinsmen of natives of Chattahoochee County, who were later prominent in local and State affairs.
