Joseph McLester was born in Scotland and came to America when a child with his parents. He was a captain of Militia during the Revolutionary War. His children were Daniel who lived and died in Montgomery Co., N. C. near the place of his birth. John (b. May 1767) m. Araminta Gray; lived near Talladega and died in Montgomery. Joseph Jr. lived in N. C. William, bachelor, was a planter on the Red River of Ark., James m. Nancy Tompkms and lived in Ala. Rebecca m. Valentine VanHoose of Ala. Several descendants of James and Nancy Tompkins McLester are now living in Ala. One of these is Dr. Jas. S. McLester of Birmingham, Ala. Descendants of John and Araminta Gray McLester: (1) Lucy b. Sept. 25, 1797; m. John Thompson Story; (2) Horatio b. Jan. 15, 1800 m. Elizabeth Gaither; (3) Nelson b. Sept. 20, 1802; d. Sept. 10, 1850; m. 1st, Phoebe B. Kirkland, m. 2nd Mary C. Redd. (4) James (M. D.) b. 1804 (see sketch). (5) John b. July 8, 1889, bachelor (M. D.). (6) Arminta b. Jan. 11. 1812; (no other data). (7) Leonidas (M. D.) b. April 12, 1814, (grad. from Ga. Medical College, Augusta, 1843), m. Mary Ann Kidder; lived in Cuthbert, Ga. (8) William Wesley (lawyer) b. 1816, m. Amelia Metcalf; descendants living in Nashville, Tenn. Miss Amelia McLester of faculty of U. of Va., educator and writer is g. dau. of Wm. W. McLester. (9) Harvey (lawyer) b. June 24, 1819, bachelor; Capt. of Texas Regt. C. S. A. (10) Martha (twin of Harvey), m. Robert C. Redding, Dec. 4, 1853. (11) Francis b. July 17, 1822. (no other data). (12) Lucinda b. Jan. 17, 1824, m. Judge Enoch Brown, lived in Cuthbert, Ga. Children of Lucy McLester (1) and John Thompson Story: Calvin Lawrence, Julia Ann, Richard Lawson, Theodore, John McLester, Edward Faris, James Gray, Lucy Caroline, Leonidas Jefferson and Horatio Emmet Storey. Seven of these sons were officers in the C. S. A.: one of them Leonidas Jefferson Storey was R. R. Commissioner and Lieut. Governor of Texas. Mrs. H. V. Davis of Richland is descendant of Lucy McLester and John Thompson Story. Children of Horatio and Elizabeth (Gaither) McLester; m. June 2, 1834. Margaret Gaither McLester Perry b. April 17, 1835; Sara Elizabeth McLester b. July 22, 1839. Children of Wm. Wesley and Amelia (Metcalf) McLester: Araminta and Charles McLester.
