McGlaun, grandson of one of the first commissioners for Chattahoochee whose term expired last) are descendants of original settlers in this section of the state. Another interesting fact about these three commissioners and their clerk is that their wives are all descendants of original settlers here. Their judicious management of the affairs of the county during this financial crisis throughout the country may be accounted for, partly because their innate sense of responsibility towards the land of their fathers constrains them to a moderate course in the administration of the business of the county. Their ability for directing public affairs successfully is due largely to, that experience acquired in the astute management of their own business interests. King G. Harp b. 1873, besides farming interests, and much real estate, has a mercantile establishment in Cusseta, in which his son Henry K. Harp is now a partner. Chas. N. King b. 1869, has a large plantation at Halloca, in the same neighborhood where his grandfather, Henry King, bought several lots of land in 1837. Here his father, Wm. N. King, lived until his removal to Webster County. Stonewall J. Patterson b. 1868 owns a plantation and store at Renfroe, where he, with his sons, S. J. and R. E. Patterson, direct the various activities incident to the life of a prosperous planter. The marked success of these men in discharging their public duties has been commended by the grand jury and merits the praise of the citizens of this county.
