Benjamin Jefferson (whose father's name was Thomas Jefferson) of Baltimore married Harriet McGehee. 4 ch. viz: Rollin, Emory, Wesley and Sarah Caroline b. Jan. 15, 1845; d. March 19, 1908. She m. 1st Cullen C. Hardison; m. 2nd Duncan Hartsfield Burts. Cullen C. Hardison was son of William Hardison, one of the wealthiest planters living near Glen Alta in Marion Co. Duncan H. Burts b. Feb. 13, 1835, d. Aug. 17, 1881, was admitted to the bar in Cusseta in 1850; joined Co. C of the 10th Ga. Regt.; part of Semmes' brigade, army of Northern Va., was in the army two years and was elected to the Confederate legislature before he reached home. With Wm. Bagley he represented Chattahoochee Co. in the State Convention called by provisional Gov. James Johnson which met in Milledgeville, Oct. 1865. The deep interest of Duncan H. Burts in the Methodist church is illustrated by this part of a deed copied from records at Cusseta. "For and in consideration of the high regard and good will I have towards the Methodist Church South and advancement of the religion of Jesus Christ in the world, I do hereby give, grant and convey to Seaborn J. Austin, Benjamin Fussell, James Fussell, Edward Covington and E. G. Raiford, trustees for said Church and to their duly appointed successors in office for the use and benefit of the said Church and for the especial purpose of erecting there a house of worship, town lot number 41 in the town of Cusseta in said county containing one acre more or less to have and to hold the aforesaid lot together with all and singular the rights, etc." April 6, 1860 W. W. Shipp Signed Duncan H. Burts. N. N. Howard, Dept. Sheriff. Mr. Burts was prominent in the affairs of the M. E. Church whereever he resided, and after he moved to Columbus in 1869, he and his wife were members of St. Luke. He was Supt. of the Sunday School and member of the Board of Stewards many years. Ch. of Duncan H. and Sarah Jefferson Burts: Edgar Duncan b. Feb. 6. 1873 and Morris Jefferson b. May 14, 1875. Dr. Wesley Jefferson lived in Marion Co. Both Rollin and Emory Jefferson m. daughters of two of Chattahoochee's most prominent families. Emory m. Caroline Louisa McLester May 6, 1869. Rollin b. Feb. 9. 1849; d. Apr. 6, 1912; (in Columbus, Ga.) m. Marrietta V. Harp who d. June 18, 1928. Their ch.: (Several d. young, and Hamilton d. several years ago). Those now living are (Dr.) Benj. LaFayette of Denver, Colo. (Dr.) Rollin of Tampa, Fla. (Dr.) Albert of Columbus, Ga. and Metta (Mrs. J. C. McPhail) of Richmond, Va. Ch. of Emory and Caroline McLester Jefferson: Mary Lee (Mrs. M. E. Rushin) one dau. Ruth Rushin; James McLester (dec'd); Emory (dec'd) m. Elma Ruling, ch. Martha, Ella Louise and Emory Jr.: Harriet Ida (Mrs. Homer Hardin), ch. Ruth and Homer Hardin Jr.; Annie Laurie (Mrs. J. A. Porter), Tom m. Claudie Willis; Louise; Burke Johnston m.
