King, first of this family in Chattahoochee Co., were sons of Joseph whose brothers were William m. Margaret deVane (parents of William Rufus King, elected Vice-Pres. of U. S.), Michael, Charles (m. Unity Toole) and one or two others. Several descendants of Chas. And Unity Toole (ch. of Rufus and Catherine Way King), also lived here, viz., Alice Katherine (Mrs. G. W. King), Henry Clay (Penny) and Sam King. Their oldest sister, Mary (Mrs. John Terry) is now living at Shellman, Ga. Henry King b. Jan. 29, 1796, d. June 30, 1882, m. Elizabeth (Betsy) Lee, b. Meta Lilian Castleberry; one son Ernest Eugene; (11) Infant son b. and d. 1859; (12) Jesse Lee b. July 6, 1863, m. Cumi Hight in La.; Ch. Leelon (dec'd), Clyde, Goldman, Elsie (Mrs. Vinson), and Cliff live in La. (1933); (13) Mary Eliza b. Aug. 12, 1865, m. Dr. T. B. Miller Apr. 20, 1909. Ch. of Joseph (2) and Sarah Neal McNaughton King, (who moved to La.): Chas. James, Henry Woodj Wm. Rufus, Elizabeth Tabitha, Zilphia Eliza, Mary E., Joseph Dixon, Jesse W., Green Lee and Fanny B. (Mrs. Chas. B. Roberts) now living, also Zilphia (Mrs. John Hester), Jesse W. and Green Lee are living. A dau. of Joe D., Olive (Mrs. Ben Everett) lived in Atlanta a few years. William and Zilphia King Allbritton moved to La. Several children. John and Sarah King Hatton and family moved to Texas. Wm. N. King (5) m. 1st Mary Ann Covington Dec. 6, 1849; 3 daus.: Emma, (Mrs. Frank Barge), Lougenia, (Mrs. Bob Jones), and infant, (dec'd), m. 2nd Georgia Dennard, lived at Weston, Ga. where they are buried. Ch. of Wm. Nathan and Georgia Dennard King: William, Joseph. Chas. Nathan, Kay, Mattie, (Mrs. Eliott) and Zee (dec'd). Ch. of Mrs. Mattie Elliott: Albert. Georgia Jewell (Mrs. Pinkston); King.W., Florence (Mrs. Wommack) and Mattie Wise. Charles Nathan King came as a youth to manage his father's plantation in Chattahoochee Co., and made this place his home. He m. Lula Harp June 1, 1899. Ch.: (several d. young), Martha Corrine, m. S. J. Patterson Jr. and has one son S. Jackson Patterson III; Joseph, who is great-great-grandson of the first Joseph King mentioned in this genealogy. Henry James (6) who m. Mary McCook of Chattahoochee Co., removed to Texas where they reared a large family. A daughter, Mattie King, now 71 (1931) years old is remarkable for the various kinds of work she can perform. Mary (7) m. William Covington who d. from wounds received during War Between the States; 5 ch. viz: Teresa, James, Mittie, William, (Billy) and Sallie. Teresa m. Charles Rogers. one son, Olin Rogers; Mittie m. M. Boyd, one son: Covington Boyd; Billy m. Fatie Calhoun; 4 daus. Ethel (Mrs. Robert McBryde), Elba, Eva, and Mae Covington. Sallie m. Sterling Jenkins; 3 sons: Will Ed, Drane, Sterling. Charles Powell (8) and Susan Brown King had two sons, Billy and Henry and one dau., Mary (Mrs. Hite) whose dau. Cumi Hite m. her cousin Jesse Lee Wilkinson. John Rufus King. (9) m. 2nd Aug. 27, 1870 Emma H. Pickett, b. May 13, 1852, d. Aug. 15, 1923. Ch.: Miriam Elizabeth, (Mrs, E. E. Cook), John m. Charles King b. 1799, brother of Henry- King, m. 1st Mrs. Pheribe Moore Rogers who had two sons by 1st marriage, viz: James who d. in young manhood unmarried, and Burleson Pinckney Rogers b. Sept. 7, 1818, d. June 27, 1866. m. Sarah Ann Underwood (b. Sept. 6, 1825, d. March 7, 1889), Nov. 18, 1841; ch.: Mary Elizabeth, (Mrs. B. D. Williams), James Benjamin, Charles Pinckney and Caroline Fredonia Rogers (Mrs. J. O. Wilkinson). Pheribe, dau. of John Moore (his will probated in Jefferson Co. in 1816) m. James Rogers July 31, 1817 in Jefferson Co., Ga. Ch. of Charles and Pheribee M. R. King; Isabelle m. Jeptha Dean Feb. 18, 1841; moved to Texas. Callie m. LaFayette Harp; Joseph m. Harriet R. Bell, June 6. 1850; two daus.: Emma (Mrs. Asa Daniel) and Carrie (Mrs. Sellers); ch. of Mrs. Asa McDaniel; King and Carrie (Mrs. Newsome), King m. Katie Bartlett; Lizzie m. 1st William (Doc) Wallace, m. 2nd LaFayette Harp; Charles m. Ann Shaw; two sons, Walter and Charlie. Charles d. young; Ann Shaw King m. 2nd Ben Patterson and moved to Texas. Henry (bachelor) youngest son of Charles and Pheribee King, spent his entire life, except the years in the Confederate Army, in Chattahoochee Co. Charles King m. 2nd Mrs. Caroline Skinner Ligon, May 17, 1846. Her only child, Elizabeth R. Ligon m. Jesse M. Read, Jan. 30, 1840 and d. within a few years. Charles King Sr. b. Nov. 10, 1799, d. Feb. 26, 1867. (Mrs.) Caroline S. L. King b. June 28, 1804, d. Aug. 26, 1889. Rachel Lee, sister of Mrs. Henry King and Mrs. Wm. Rogers, (all daus. of John and Mary Brown Lee) m. Daniel M. Vaughn; 8 ch. viz: Mrs. Mary Vaughn Silas, Ella, Harriet, Frank, John, Susie, Joseph and Lou (Mrs. P. L. Pattillo b. 1853) who lives in Texas (1933). Descendants of this Vaughn family live in Columbus, Ga. Sarah Underwood, wife of B. Pickney Rogers, was dau. of William Underwood b. Sept. 15, 1791, d. Oct. 22, 1826, and Sally (Sarah in Bible, Sally on marriage record in Baldwin Co., Ga.) Robertson, b. Aug. 3, 1794, d. Feb. 8, 1856, m. Nov. 21, 1813. Ch. named in Bible record: Nancy b. Nov. 11, 1814, in. Jeptha Bryant; Martha b. July 9,,1817; Mariah b. Nov. 29, 1819; Dorcas (no date); Sarah Ann b. Sept. 6, 1825; Susan Brown (half sister of Underwoods) b. Sept. 4, 1834, m. Charles King. Sallie Robertson, wife of William Underwood, was dau. of John and Juriah Robertson, whose names are both in Knight's Roster of Rev. Soldier, (name sometime spelled Robinson).
