William McBride b. in Burke Co. Ga., in 1773, d. in Chattahoochee Co. Apr. 1854; his will being first recorded at Cusseta. He came from Jefferson Co. from whence this information comes; Wm. McBride was 4th son of Samuel and Jane Finley (Findley) McBride who m. in Scotland about 1759, removed to Ireland and came to.America in 1765. They were Scotch-Irish Presbyterians. William McBride m. 4 times; 1st Nancy Eleanor Patterson dau. of Billy Paterson of Burke Co. Ga.; 3 ch. Eleazar (killed by Indians in battle of Hitchiti), Nancy Eleanor and Mary Jane (Mrs. M. C. Wardlaw); m. 2nd Miss Little; m. 3rd Betsy McBride (Mrs. E. T. Hickey says she was a distant cousin of his); 5 ch. viz: Wm. James, Thomas, Samuel, Eliza Ann (Mrs. Wingfield W. Livingston), Martha Ann (Mrs. Benj. W. Orr). Mrs. W. W. Livingston had two sons William T. b. 1856 and Samuel J. W. b. 1858; both left families. Dr. M. Wardlaw m. 1st Margaret Griswold; one dau. Margaret (Mrs. D. J. Shaw); m. 2nd Mary Jane McBride, 2 ch. William E. and Georgia (Mrs. E. T. Hickey, oldest descendant of this family now living); William E. Wardlaw m. Clara Frederick; 4 ch. viz: Albert, Charles m. Emma Wilkes, Belle (Mrs. Oliver K. Gresham), Ben m. Annie Munn. William McBride m. 4th (Mrs.) Sarah Saffold Brady (b. in Washington Co. Ga. in 1802), whose brother Adam Saffold and sister Mrs. Martha Saffold Stephens lived in this county. Census of 1850 shows that Nancy Eleanor age 35, Samuel 23, Elizabeth 20 and Martha Anna McBride 18, all b. in Jefferson Co. were living in their father's home in this county. Wm. James McBride m. Mary Elizabeth Averett, mother of this family, was dau. of Vinson (Vincent) L. Averett b. Dec. 6, 1829 and his first wife Rosannah Elizabeth Stephens b. Apr. 8, 1833, d. Oct. 8, 1870; m. Sept. 23, 1852. Other ch. were Sarah Emma (Mrs. Vining) b. Apr. 9, 1854 and Lemuel Calvin Averett b. Feb. 24, 1856. V. L. Averett (m. 2nd Amanda Farr) son of Albright Averett who came from Hancock Co. Ga. to Muscogee—then to Stewart where his will was probated Sept. 1867. Ch. of Albright and Mary Averett: (1) V. Catherine Hill, Eva Mae (Mrs. Joe Taylor) Julia (6) m. C. W. Stephens, 2 ch. Curtis V. b. Apr. 20, 1871, m. Mary Ida Wilson and Gertrude K Mar. 4, 1873, m. 1st Jas. Peed; m. 2nd Chas. Wallis. Three Averetts intermarried into the Calvin Stephens family. Calvin Stephens b. in Twiggs Co. Ga. 1806, d. in Chattahoochee Co. 1883. Descendants say his father who came from Ireland, left one brother there and that Calvin was only son with 12 sisters about whom little is known. In 1827 Calvin Stephens m. Martha (Patsie) Saffold b. in Washington Co. Ga.; three of their nine ch. were born before they came here in 1832. Ch.'s names: Catherine, Rosannah Elizabeth (Mrs. Averett), Puss, Joel, Peter, Bob, Mary b. 1842, d. 1930, m. 1st Edward Covington, dau., Lougenia (Mrs. E. L. Fryer), m. 2nd M. M.
