McCardel, tax collector, member Board of Education, and one of the best citizens of the county, says his father was Charles E. McCardel b. March 7, 1821, d. Jan. 31, 1881, m. Jan. 28, 1854, Eliza J. Parker b. Oct. 20, 1836, d. Sept. 26, 1911. Mrs. C. E. McCardel was dau. of Jacob Parker who, in addition to teaching school for many years at Mt. Paran, was Justice of the Peace. Their eldest son Chas. L. McCardel b. Dec. 28, 1854, d. July 17, 1932, lived at Eelbeck for many years. Ch. by his 1st marriage were Alonzo, Jesse W., d. 1917, Paul and Eddie McCardel; by his second marriage to Mrs. Laura Mehaffey (nee Miss Ford) who had by her first marriage John M., Charlie T., Annie (Mrs. Martin) and Clifford R. Mehaffey, one son Elmer McCardel b. Apr. 1901, d. Oct. 22, 1925. Ch. of Alice (Mrs. Jesse Pate), only dau. of Chas. E. and Eliza P. McCardel who lived to maturity are mentioned in Pate records. Jeff D. McCardel who m. 1st Fanny Gallops b. May 2, 1868 d. Dec. 2, 1928; m. 2nd Ella Parkman in 1930, is oldest member of the family now living in Chattahoochee. William A. McCardel m. Mollie Gallops. Ch.'s names in Gallops records. James B. McCardel m. Nina Robinson. Two ch. viz: J. B. Jr. and Lucile. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. E. McCardel, their sons and daughters all prominent members of the Baptist churches of their community, lived exemplary lives as honest, upright citizens, who contributed much to the general welfare of that part of the county.
