He had a rice mill on the creek about a mile from where Underwood's grist mill is now located. A. S. Harp of Cusseta recalls going to this mill when he was a boy about 15 years old. He carried all the rice that could be placed on a horse and brought back about two bushels after it was husked. He says the paddles were on a wheel propelled by water power; as one lifted another dropped into the hollow log which had been burned out into oval shape for holding the rice to have the husks flailed off by these revolving mallets.
