June 3, 1776 son of Enoch Renfroe Sr., and Rachel, his wife, m. June 1801, Elizabeth Hall b. Apr. 11, 1781, dau. of James and Sarah Hall. Six ch., viz: (1) Samuel Pinkney b. May 7, 1802; (2) John R., b. Nov. 18, 1804; (3) Sally b. Sept. 7, 1806; (4) James Madison, b. July 17, 1809; (5) Rachel Lydia Ann, b. Feb. 22, 1812: (6) Harriet G. b. June 18, 1814. James Madison Renfroe (4) m. Martha (Patsy Clay, ch. (1) Gilbert b. about 1833, d. 1863 (unmarried) in war: (2) Mattie m. J. D. Shipp had a large family; moved to Hunt Co. Texaso spending remainder of lives in and near Greenville. (3) James Madison Jr. b. Feb. 17, 1848, d. May 16, 1896 at Renfroe Ga., m. 1st Dec. 7, 1870 Georgia Elizabeth Burt of Brantley; who d. in 1887; 6 ch. viz: Mattie Clay m. Allen Pate; two ch.; Agnes and Ethel Pate (deed.) at Asheville, Ala. Pearl Lee d. infancy; John Linton (short sketch of whom follows); Sarah Cathel d. Nov. 7, 1906; Jimmie resides in Columbus, Ga., and Harris Burt Renfroe b. Jan. 17, 1884, d, June 25, 1925— grad, in pharmacy—went to Meridian, Miss., m. Marguerite Ormand; 3 ch., viz. Harris Burt Jr., Jane and John Will Renfroe. J. M. Renfroe m. 2nd on Feb. 17, 1889 Ozella Turner; two ch. who d. infancy. J. M. Renfroe d. in community where he had lived practically all his life. John Linton Renfroe Atty., of Statesboro, Ga., grad, of Emory College 1900, has since taught school and practiced law in So. Ga. towns; m. Lucy Rogers at Lyons Dec. 22, 1903; 3 ch., viz. Linton Butler, Carl Gilbert and Sara Bess; the latter graduated this year at Wesleyan Conservatory. Mr. Renfroe, a prominent citizen of Statesboro, was mayor 1921-25 and is again serving as mayor (1933). His grandfather Jas. M.
