Ga., and had two draws (indicating he was a soldier in one of previous wars) one lot being in original Lee (from which Sumter, Stewart and several other counties were formed) and one in original Muscogee. He married Lucy Rogers of Twiggs Co. Ga., ad moved to Sumter Go.: then to Stewart Co. where his son David was born and reared. There were several other children, among them Ann who married first Chas. R. King, and second Ben Patterson; another daughter was Hester who married first _____ Fincher and had one son Joseph Shaw Fincher; she m. 2nd R. G. Patterson (ch. named in Patterson gen.); another daughter Joanna married 1st. Jas. Carswell; m. 2nd Mr. Peed; m. 3rd Jas. Webb. David Joseph Shaw m. Margaret, dau. of Dr. Wardlaw and lived near Cusseta where his family was reared. They moved to Columbus in 1886. Ch. of D. J. and Margaret Wardlaw Shaw; Eleanor (Mrs. W. J. Matthews of Moultrie. d. 1932), Belle (Mrs. Tom Andrews of Columbus), Clinton (dec'd) Clifford (dec'd) Margaret (Mrs. Say nor of Tallahassee, Fla., and Ernest. After the death of his first wife, Joseph Shaw of Stewart Co. married again and moved to Harris Co. where he left sons. He was a mechanical genius and was said to have spent a fortune just to show that he could run the complicated machinery of his mill with a wheel no larger than his hat.
