Henderson Wooldridge, mother of Mary Evaline (Walker) Shipp and daughter of Absalom D. and Lucy (Henderson) Wooldridge b. June 8, 1807; d. March 8, 1848, was first person buried at the cemetery of Hamony church at Cusseta. She m. first John A. Walker; two ch. Mary Evaline b. Dec. 26, 1824; d. March 12, 1856; John A. Jr. b. May 9 ,1827; m. second Samuel C. Parks who also had several children by a former marriage. Col. J. E. D. Shipp says his father pronounced Samuel C. Absalom Davis Wooldridge, ancestor of the Wooldridges of Chattahoochee Co., b. in 1785; m. Lucy B. Henderson in 1805. He was one of the early settlers of Putnam Co. where he died at the age of 37. The orphans of A. D. Wooldridge (listed as residents of Putnam Co.), in 1827 drew a lot in original Lee County. His widow, Mrs. Lucv Henderson Wooldridge b. Dec. 13, 1790; d. May 16, 1855; m. 2nd Rev. Benj. Bussey b. Nov. 15, 1774. Her will on record at Cusseta, Ga., mentions her children's names: Mary H. (Mrs. Samuel C. Parks, dec'd) Thomas F. William G., Martha Ann (Mrs. Jesse R. Home), Emily (Mrs. William Rowe) and Lucinda Caroline (Mrs. James McLester). The records of their families and achievements will be given on next pages. Absalom Davis Wooldridge (b. 1785), son of Thomas and Chiriah (Davis) Wooldridge, was named for his maternal grandfather, Absalm Davis, a Rev. soldier, b, 1730, in Spottsylvania Co., Va., d. in Elbert Co. Ga., in 1807. This Absalom Davis was in the battle of Kettle Creek and his name appears on the roll of honor of the D. A. R. Lineage Books, several of his descendants having joined that organization on the record of his service. The grandfather of Absalom D. Wooldridge on his paternal side was William Wooldridge, son of John Wooldridge of Henrico Co., Va. The wills of Absalom Davis. William Wooldridge and his wife Sarah, are on record at Elberton, Ga. William Wooldridge who m. Sarah Flournoy in Va. d. in Elbert Co. in 1798. Sarah Flournoy Wooldridge d. in 1806. (Following furnished by Mrs. E. S. Bell) Both the Wooldridge and Flournoy names appear on the roster of the early settlers of Manakin Town, Va. This Flournoy line has been traced to Laurent Flournoy who was born in 1563 in Allen Court, France. An interesting- account of this Virginia Huguenot family appears in the files of the Virginia Historical and Genealogical Magazine. The Flournoy coat of arms is also shown. Several of the descendants of William and Sarah Flournoy Wooldridge have rendered conspicuous service to the State of Georgia and other states. In 1798 Gibson Wooldridge, son of William and brother of Thomas, whose descendants live in Chattahoochee Co., was one of the delegates composing the Convention which framed the Constitution under which Georgia lived for seventy years. John Wooldridge, son of Gibson, was a Lieut. Col. in the War of 1812. William Wooldridge, another son of William and Sarah Flournoy Wooldridge was appointed Major on the staff of Robert Williams of Surry. Co., N. C., when he was made Governor of Mississippi Territory in 1805. Gibson Wooldridge d. in Abbeville Co. S. C. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1798, Lincoln Co. J. P. of Wilkes Co. Feb. 25, 1796; Apr. 29, 1796. William Wooldridge, father of Gibson, came to Surry Co. N. C. from Chesterfield Co. Va.. in 1773. He was a grand juror in Surry Co., N. C., in 1778. John Wooldridge took a land grant in Henrico Co., Va., in 1725. When Chesterfield Co. was formed he farmed his lands in that county. Following records gathered from many sources. Thomas Flournoy, son of Absalom D. Wooldridge, was a member of house of Representative from Muscogee Co., Ga., 1849-50, 1851-32. He was also a member of the Convention of 1850 from Muscogee Co. His untimely death caused by horses becoming unmanageable on Schley's Hill, cut short his career. His monument at Cusseta bears this inscription : In Memory of Thomas F. Wooldridge Who lived and walked in the Square and Plumb And died a paragon of the noblest virtues. On 3rd day of April, 1856, in the 47th year of his age. The graves of his wife, Mary Ann (Bussey) Wooldridge b. Nov. 8. 1809, d. June 20, 1864, and their daughter, Lucy Jane, are in same plot. Ch. of Thos. F. and Mary Ann Bussey Wooldridge, m. 1830. Dennis. Emaline Smith, 2nd wife of W. G. Wooldridge, sister of Mrs. Harriet Bussey (wife of Dr. N. J. Bussey) was dau. of Charles W. Smith from N, C., another early settler of Talbot Co. His will mentions daus. Caroline Dennis (wife of Ephraim W. Dennis), Sarah Stanton (wife of Wm Stanton) and Catherine; son John H. "and other chidren", son Levi B. Smith Exer.
