Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Tante Funeral Home with Reverend Gene Cook officiating. Interment followed at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus. Mr. Crockett was born October 31, 1926, in Headland, AL, to Grady and Vea Hardy Crockett. A descendant of Davy Crockett, he served in the Navy during World War II. He had been employed as a stock clerk at Bill Heard Chevrolet in Columbus and had lived in Cusseta for the past 17 years. He was a loving husband, always looking after his wife’s needs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Herman Crockett and Jeoff Crockett, and by four sisters, Mavis Floyd, Nonis Grant, Mayo Ford, and Nadine Wilson. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mattie Lou Rowlls Crockett; three daughters, Dorothy Griffin of Cusseta, Beatrice Ingram, of Rome, GA, and Helen Baker and husband Andrew, who was like a son to Mr. Crockett, of Cusseta; two brothers, Randolph Crockett of Satellite Beach, FL, and Wayne Crockett of Memphis, TN. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren: Eraina Pack, Bill Pack, Gary Pack, Angie Tuttle, Daniel Ingram, Steven Ingram, Annette Ingram, Tami Watson, Tonia Mullins, Martha McKinley, Michelle Cade, and Andrea “Andy” Baker, 30 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Columbus Hospice staff. They are a wonderful organization! A special thank you to Miss Nicie Baker, Papa Joe’s Angel! God Bless you Miss Nicie!
