State News Items

At Cusseta the wife of Levi Green (colored) was reported to have died, and her 
burial took place in a very quiet form, but in the last few days it has been 
rumored that she was murdered by her husband.  An investigation of the matter 
developed enough facts to warrant an examination by Coroner and he, with Dr. 
F.M. Gordy and the jury, left Thursday to take up the body, and a thorough 
examination of it.  The deceased was buried about two weeks ago at Green Hill, 
Stewart County and Levi is away from home.  One of the Negroes who assisted in 
putting the body into the coffin, says when they lifted it the back part of the 
skull as soft and blood ran out of her mouth, but was told to say nothing about 
it.
