Bowman to his daughter and son- in-law (Sarah Elizabeth Bowman and Benjamin Franklin Strickland) who had moved to Arkansas probably in the last 1860s. I have typed it as closely as possible to the way it is written. How funny that it is all one sentence. State of Ga. Chattooga July 23, 1873 Mr. B.F. Strickland and wife dear children i seat my self this morning to rite you a few lines to let you know that i am stile in thee land of thee living and enjoing a portion of health and thee rest of thee family are all well at this time and i hope these lines may go safe to hand and find you and family all well and doing well both for time and for eternity and it would bee a grate sorse of satisfaction if i could see you and tell you of thee many triales that i have passed through sinse i was in your company last but that yerning is past forever in this life but i trust that i will meat you and yours in that land of rest then we will part no more forever may this be our happy home at last i know that my time in this world is shorte but i field that i shall have a home in heven when don with this life prey for mee that i may hold out faithful to thee end of life i would bee glad that you would come and see mee if it is in your power thee helth of this contry is toleable good ate this time though some of thee connection is in bad health but thee are better at this time it is caldona her health has binn bad this summer thee rest of thee connection are all weell at this i got a letter from James a short tim a go his health was bad at thee time he rot to mee he sid he wanted try and come out to this part of country the fall i will give you thee prise of things cotten 16 corn from sixty to 75 per bushel bacon 12 cent and evry thing else in perportion. Ewing is living in thee house withe mee they have a fine son call his name atticus at lass wee are a goin to have a camp meating this fall it will commence on thee first thisday in septimbe and i think that i will try to tent if can i will have to buy a tent for thee old one is fell down wee have had a plenty of rain in thee firs part of thee summer we want rain at this time i want you to rite mee as often as you can your stepmother sends her love and respects to you hoping that shee may see you in this lif i will have to cose for this time rite soon and often i send you my likeneys and i want to rite if you get it .
