From The Chattooga News - August 16, 1893 A TRIBUTE OF RESPECT To Brave Men Who Fell in Ranks, Defending Their Country. The following resolutions of respect passed in memory of dead com[r]ades many years ago, will no doubt prove of interest to those few remaining men "who wore the grey." They are furnished by Mr. H. H. Ball, of Menlo. At a meeting of Company K, 21st Regiment Georgia volunteers, held in Maryland September 17, 1862, with Cap. John B. Akridge presiding, to consider the deaths of our much esteemed friends and friends and companions in arms, Marion Little, J. E. Hood, J. M. Ball, Wm Smallwood and W. S. Daniel, who fell during the recent engagement with the enemy at Manassas August 28, 2862, the following preamble and resolutions were adopted: Whereas, It has pleased an all wise Providence who ruleth over the destinies of men as well as nations, to remove from our ranks our much esteemed and beloved companions in arms, Marion Little, J. E. Hood, J. M. Ball, Wm Smallwood and W. S. Daniel, who fell nobly defending our beloved Confederacy against an insolent and repacious foe, therefore be it Resolved, that the deaths of our beloved companions have filled us with grief and sorrow, and that this loss is irretrievable tot he Company, the Regiment and the country, and one which we shall long bemoan and regret. Resolved, that it is a sad pleasure we experience in bearing testimony to the worth and excellency of the deceased as soldiers and as men, kind hearted, generous and unselfish. They made for themselves with the Company and Regiment a degree of popularity rarely attained. Resolved, that we all strive to imitate their Christian and heroic actions, and if it is our fate to fall, may we fall as they did with our faces to the foe. Resolved, that to the grief stricken families of the deceased we extend our warmest sympathies in their great affliction. Resolved that a copy of these resolutions be sent the families of the deceased. Lieut. J. W. Patrick, Sergt. J. C. Hill, Private A. B. Maloney, Private W. A. Loveless Com.
