This file was contributed by: Linda Atkins blwkk@bellsouth.net ==================================================================== Rome News Tribune, Tuesday, October 8.1940 Charles Blanton Atkins, 82, pioneer citizen of Floyd County, died at his residence, 508 North 5th Avenue, Monday night at 10o'clock. He had been in declining health for several months but his condition had become critical only a week ago. Born in Subligna, July 16,1858, he had spent his entire life in Floyd County. For many years he operated a blacksmith shop. A devoted Christian, he had joined the Baptist Church in early manhood, and for the past 25 years he had been a member of the Armuchee Baptist Church. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. Surviving him are two daughters, Miss Bonnie Atkins, of Rome, Mrs. H.A. Phillips of Chickamauga; three sons, Lee and Eugene of Rome, and George Atkins of Trion; two brothers, W.A. of Lindale, D.J. Atkins of Coosa; 30 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at the Armuchee Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock by the Rev. Gordon Ezzell, Pastor of the South Broad Baptist Church, and the Rev. W.F. Conn, pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Armuchee Cemetery. Six grandsons will act as pallbearers.
