Foster Moses Little Foster, son of Robert and Margaret Foster, of Virginia, was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia, July 30, 1846. He served in the Confederate Army from 1862 to 1865, volunteering at the age of sixteen years. When a young man, he was engaged for several years in the mercantile business with Foster and Harlan, a pioneer firm of Calhoun. Later, he became a prominent landholder and agriculturist investing in the fertile bottom lands that lie along the Coosawattee River in the northern part of Gordon County, an estate still in the possession of his descendants. Mr. Foster served Gordon County as tax collector 1885-1887. He was an outstanding Mason, a member of the Methodist Church exemplifying the graces of Christianity by honesty, generosity, friendliness, a devotee of civic progress, an ideal citizen. On December 19, 1872, he married Miss Malissa A. Pulliam, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Murphy-Pulliam. Their children: Willie Lou (deceased); Julia Lester (Mrs. J. C. Fife, of Calhoun); Kate (Mrs. B. F. Whittemore, of Red Bud); S.R. (m. Miss Sue Neal); G. D. (m. Miss Ida Nesbitt). Mr. Foster died at Calhoun, January 16, 1890, and is buried in Chandler Cemetery.
