Rome News Tribune-Sunday-June 10, 1962

Mrs. Mattie Broome Powell, 77, Rt 3 Summerville, died Saturday afternoon in a 

Trion Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs Powell was a member of the New 

Hope Baptist Church. Her husband, R. A. Powell  preceded her in death in July 

1961.

Survivers include; 3 daughters, Mrs E Arp, Mrs Lee Burk Gilreath, & R.L.Bowman 

all of Summerville. 2 sons, Clyde & Harry Powell of  Summerville. 2 sisters, 

Mrs S. Prevost pf Detroit, Mich., Mrs S.J. Williams, Atlanta; 4 brothers, D.C. 

&the Rev W.A. Broome, both of Rome, Fred and Almerine of Detroit; 4 

granddaughters & 3 grandsons & 11 greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church 3 p.m. Monday with 

the Revs. Darty Stowe, E.A. Carson, Penny Clark officating. Interment following 

in the Macedonia Cemetery
