James D. Smith died in Lyerly, Georgia, November 4, 1909, in his 82nd year. 
He was a member of Company H, 39th Georgia Regiment, CSA, serving gallantly 
the entire four years of the war, honorable discharge. Buried in Lyerly 
Cemetery.
