Strain and Company storefront, Calhoun, Gordon County, Georgia, ca. 1937-1939? Photographer/Studio: The Calhoun Photo Shoppe (Calhoun, Ga.) Description: Calhoun, late 1930s. Otis Erwin (left) Daniel T. Strain (right) standing in front of J.A. Strain &Co. located at the corner of Court and North Wall Streets. Mr. Erwin was an employee in this men's store operated by Strain. Jud Campbell is seen sitting at the far left. Note the shoes and hats in the window display. The building which houses this firm was built in 1877 by Thomas A. Foster. He and James Monroe Harlan operated Foster and Harlan, an early department store there. In 1897 the structure was remodeled. The Calhoun Watch Shop has occupied this building since 1954. Remodeling was done again in 1976. The photograph was taken by The Calhoun Photo Shoppe which was located in Calhoun, Georgia at the time the photograph was taken.
