It had on its original roll probably 176 men. It was composed of men from four counties, Cherokee, Pickens, Forsyth and Dawson. Before being mustered into service at Richmond, Virginia, being too large for one company, it was divided, retaining in the original company, under Captain Burtz, the men from Cherokee and Pickens counties, while the men from Forsyth and Dawson counties were formed in a new company.
