The Cherokee Advance  13  Nov 1885  P 3 November 13, 1885
We were glad to meet in The Advance office last Friday Mr. W. Steward Howard 
who had that morning returned from Texas, whither he went from this place 
about one year ago.  While in the Lone Star State his wife sickened and died.  
He will remove into the dwelling he formerly occupied and resume his old job 
at Col. Teasley's tannery, where, with the exception of only about two years, 
he has worked ever since the close of the war, in 1865.  We gladly welcome his 
return to Canton, and deeply sympathize with him in the loss of his 
affectionate wife.
