Ponder enlisted with Company B Sixth United States Regiment and served the army 18 months, or until June 18, 1866 when he was thrown off a wagon and the wheels passed over his foot disabling him for further service. Some time ago he made claim to the government for a pension, based upon the above facts. His claim was recently allowed and a few days since a check for $901 was sent him, that being the amount due him from Nov. 4, 1866 to Nov. 4, 1885. His name has been entered upon the pension list and he will hereafter draw a pension of four dollars per month. Mr. Ponder resides near Hickory Flat in this county and the reception of the check, and the news that his name had been entered on the pension roll was not only good to him, but all his neighbors as well. The money will be scattered and do the county more or less good.
