Bell a few weeks before, while on a visit to this county from Atlanta. Judge Brown sentenced him to eight years in the penitentiary. It was at this term of court also that Richard Glover who stole Col. Sharp's horse, was sentenced to 20 years in the penitentiary. Light was but a mere boy and for other reasons his sentence was lighter than Glover. Hon. W. H. Simmons, of Jasper, his attorney, did all he could for him at the time, and at the last term of our court he went before the grand jury and stated that as Light had already served about four years, and made a good obedient convict and that the Prosecutor, Judge, Solicitor, Ordinary, Sheriff, and other citizens had joined in asking that Light be pardoned, he, on the suggestion of the Governor, came before the grand jury with the request that they too join in the recommendation. His request was readily assented to, and, together with the recommendation and his statement before the Governor, last week, he succeeded in obtaining a pardon for Henry Light. Henry is now free, and we trust he may ever be.
