Thos. D. Evans of Cherokee county, received injuries which may result in his death. He is a highly respected old gentleman, and is known by many of the business men of Atlanta, with whom, in years past, he did a heavy business. He resides at Trickum, near Canton, in Cherokee county. He frequently comes to Atlanta on business. He is about 64 years old, and this (sic) weight must be over 200 pounds. He went to see the members of the firm of M. C. & J. F. Kiser & Co., at heir (sic) place of businee (sic) corner of Wall and Pryor streets. He was made to feel at home, and for half an hour talked pleasantly with the members of the firm in the store. He bade them good-bye and started to quit the place. Instead of leaving by the door he stepped into the open elevator and fell heavily to the floor below. The distance was not more than seven feet, but the suddenness of the descent and the weight of his body contributed to make the fall a violent one. The clerks in the office did not ee (sic) the accident; indeed, none knew of it till the moans of Mr. Evans were heard. The gentlemen in the store immediately went to his assistance, and telephoned for Mr. Westmoreland, who was soon upon the spot. He made a hurried but careful examination of the old gentleman’s injury and did what he could to relieve his pain. The examination dislosed (sic) the fact that his thigh was broken. The proprietors say that this accident is the only one which has happened in their place for fifteen years or more. They, of course, deeply regret Mr. Evans misfortune.
