Converted to God at Dry Pond Camp Ground Sept. 1838. Married Martha E. Davis Oct. 6, 1841. Departed this life May 5, 1885. He was a man of God, full of years and good deeds. Brother W. D. Anderson, who has known him and seen him tried in war and in peace, said he was a man who had done but little harm and much good, a man who made the world and the church better for having lived in it. A peacemaker in the community in which he lived, and in the church to which he belonged. I watched him for twelve months of his last illness, and he was the personification of patience. Never complained of his lot in his long suffering. Just before his death he said: "The way is clear; no trouble to die right if a man lives right. I had rather be a dog barking at the moon than to be a servant of the devil." He had been a faithful mason as well as a devoted Christian, and was buried by the fraternal brethren. J. R. S.
