In Memoriam
Mrs. India Ann Elizabeth, wife of Mr. W. T. Gaines, of this place, and who was 
the oldest living daughter of Mr. George Lathem, of this county, died at her 
home in Canton last Friday, March 4th 1887, after a lingering illness of several 
months with consumption, in her 31st year. She leaves a fond husband and six 
small affectionate children to weep over her grave, and a host of near kindred 
and friends to lament her death. She had been a devout member of the Methodist 
church since her girlhood, and lived a pure, Christian life, spreading happiness 
and sunshine wherever she went and obeying the will of her Master. Her remains 
were interred in the town cemetery last Saturday, but her soul, we have reasons 
to hope, is with the happy throng on high.
“These lively hopes we owe, 
Lord, to thy dying love:
O may we bless thy grace below, 
And sing thy grace above!”
