The Cherokee Advance 1 May 1884 p 3
Died-On last Saturday evening Mr. Wm Hastey (sic) at the house of Mr. Cline near
Canton, very suddenly of asthma.  Lived near Sharp Top in this county and was
about 60 years of age. He leaves a large family, some of whom are grown.  He was
a good man and a respected citizen.  At the time of his death he was the mail
carrier on Star route from this place to Sharp Top and made his regular trips on
Monday and Tuesday of last week although complaining of being very feeble.  We
tender our sympathies to the bereaved family and friends.
